Privacy & Cookies

Last updated: 9 October 2026

This website is run by Furze Media Ltd, the publisher of The Joys of Home Pickling!. It is a simple site: there are no accounts, no comment forms and no newsletter sign-up, so it collects very little about you. This page explains what it does use.

What is stored on your device

  • Your unit preference. If you switch a recipe to US cups, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the next recipe opens the same way. It never leaves your device.
  • Your cookie choice. If you accept or decline analytics, a cookie called cookie_consent remembers your answer for one year so you are not asked on every page.
  • Analytics cookies - only if you accept them. See below.

Analytics

With your consent, this site uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, where they come from, and which recipes are read most. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) to recognise repeat visits and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device and browser type. Nothing is loaded from Google unless you choose Accept, and the information is not used to identify you personally.

You can opt out of Google Analytics on every website with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Links to Amazon and affiliate links

Links to the book and to recommended kit take you to Amazon. Some of these may be affiliate links: as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. When you follow one, Amazon may set its own cookies to record the referral, and anything you do on Amazon is covered by Amazon's own privacy notice, not this one.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services. As with any website, the hosting provider processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type in order to deliver pages to you and keep the service secure.

If you email us

If you get in touch by email, we will use your name, email address and message only to reply to you. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not sell or share your details.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to see the personal data held about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time using the button above or by clearing this site's cookies in your browser. If you are unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. For any questions, email dan@furze.media.
